Mulled Wine

Tis the season for parties and family gatherings. Mulled wine is a perfect festive drink you can make to impress your guests that doesn’t have to break the bank!


  • 2 inexpensive bottles of red wine blend
  • 3/4 cup of inexpensive brandy
  • 1 cup of spiced apple cider
  • 1/3 cup of sugar
  • 3 tablespoons of honey
  • 3 clementines
  • 6 cinnamon sticks

You can use a slow cooker for this recipe or you can make the mulled wine on the stove top. I made mine on the stove because my crock pot was preoccupied, cooking meatballs!

Pour 2 bottles of red wine into a generous sized pot. You can use any kind of red wine, but I like to use a red wine blend because blends are really smooth and easy to drink.

Next, add 3/4 cup of brandy. The wine and brandy do not have to be expensive because you are adding other ingredients to help spruce the drink up. I promise your guests won’t know the difference!

Stir the apple cider, sugar, and honey into the wine and brandy mixture. If you would like a slightly less sweet version, cut the amount of sugar and honey in half.

Cut 2 of the clementines into thick slices and add them in. Squeeze the juice of the third clementine into the pot. Finally, add the cinnamon sticks. (You can also add cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and ginger to your mulled wine. I didn’t have any of these delicious spices on hand so I didn’t add them.)

Let the mixture simmer on low for a few hours. Never let it come to a boil because all of the alcohol will cook off.

This recipe makes 8-9 servings.
